Default VHS assault rifle's mysterious coohickey

Does anyone know what the little switch above the pistol grip on the left side of the VHS does? AIUI the safety is located in front of the trigger, within the well, so that switch is probably either a disassembly lever, bolt catch, or magazine release. Seeing as I can locate no aft magazine release, I'm guessing the latter.

Does anyone here know for sure?

Yes, that's the one!

Thank you.

I suppose then that this is the first bullpup rifle to have a proper bolt catch where the operator can get at it (notwithstanding the notches for the charging handle on the F2000 and AUG).

So where is the magazine release?

It is the bolt catch , got my hands on a VHS at the DSEI event in London, the bolt catch worked well and over all the weapon was very easy to use.

Alright, starting at 7:02 in this video is a view of the VHS field stripped:

There's a long tube attached to the top of the bolt carrier. This rifle had been described as using a direct impingement system. If that's not a piston, what is it?

Also of note, it appears that the magazine well can be removed. Perhaps this is modular to allow the use of G36 and AUG pattern magazines?

Only the VHS patent drawings shown that the rifle has some kind a direct impingement gas operation, but prototypes and production assault rifles have got normal gas system - (short stroke) gas piston, you can see in the movie.
