I'm up for it any time you like.
Yeah, the same way somebody at primary school is trained in mathematics in comparison to some dude at university with a funny hat and a few chalkboards full of symbols I don't understand. |

we did a lot of typical Infantry tasks when i was in assault troop, we trained quite often but even then... there was no comparison to what the real infantry were capable of doing especially when you compaired the level physical fitness they were at. even after the extra courses, and months and months of training we were still not at their level.

Infanteer 2-7, the thing about reserve armoured recce is that by virtue of our platform, we do a lot of dismounted stuff as well. Granted, not as much as light infantry by any means. Basically, its some of the same stuff, but on a smaller scale and for shorter durations; short recce patrols, OPs, defile drills, etc.
Ex Strat, did you do the actual Assualt Trooper's course? I'm curious, because some of the RCDs I've worked with who were Assualt Troopers were very checked out on their dismounted skills. |

we knew what we were doing on dismounted ops, but didn't have the level of experience that a 031 would have when it came to doing quick attacks, fighting patrols or ambush patrols. same could be said for the engineering tasks, we where more than capable of breaching minefields, constructing obstacles and defensive positions or demolitions but again, we did not have anything near the level of experience doing any of those things that combat engineers had and i think ultimately this is why today there is no assault troop, or infantry pioneers. |

Ex Strat, thanks. I see what you mean. FYI, Assault Troop may be rearing its head again in the next little while. All sort of interesting things came out of the Corps conference this year.
